Sleeving

sleeving: products in packages

Introduction

Sleeving is a modern and efficient packaging solution that offers many advantages. It is suitable for a wide range of industries: for the food and beverage sector, for technical products, and especially for the cosmetics and health segment. After sleeving, the products look high-quality and visually appealing, while also being optimally protected. If required, sleeving can give them a completely individual and distinctive touch. This method makes it possible, for example, to launch seasonal products in a targeted manner. But how does sleeving actually work?

Sleeves are shrink films in tube form that can be printed as required and are made of various materials. They are usually made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or PET (polyethylene terephthalate), but there are now also versions made of PLA (polylactide), a compostable bioplastic. When sleeving, the shrink films adapt perfectly to the respective product under the influence of heat and fit like a second skin or cover. This means they can be used for almost any shape. Cosmetic products in bottles, cans, jars, cups, and other containers can be marketed excellently through sleeving, especially since printing allows for countless design options that catch the eye and immediately impress the target group. Sleeves are often used for promotional packaging, for example, to assemble a certain number of products for sale as a single unit.

Cost savings through the purchase of packaging materials in large quantities

Sleeving also offers the advantage that packaging materials can be purchased in large quantities and used for different products. This results in immense cost savings.

How does sleeving work?

The sleeving process is actually quite simple. The shrink films are first printed, then glued together to form a tube, and then cut to size for the product. The finished sleeves can now be placed over the containers so that they can be shrunk onto the cosmetic product in a so-called shrink tunnel using heat (steam or hot air). This process does not create any wrinkles; the film lies flat regardless of the contours of the container. No adhesive is required for fixing. Since sleeves can be applied all around in 360-degree mode if desired, there are almost no limits to creative packaging design.

The various sleeve options

Lid sleeves

Lid sleeves are suitable for both glass and plastic bottles and are ideal for flip-top and hinged lids as well as pump closures. The sleeves can be printed or remain transparent, which has the advantage that the customer can clearly recognize the product as “originally sealed.”

Tamper-evident closure

A tamper-evident closure effectively prevents unwanted opening of a product, giving the end customer more confidence in their purchase decision. With this option, the shrink film is provided with a tear strip or microperforation during sleeving. Of course, the perforation can be opened easily and conveniently.

Full-body sleeves

Full-body sleeves can be printed or unprinted and completely envelop the product. Not only do they guarantee special product protection, they are also always the right choice when a special and eye-catching product design is desired.

Preformed sleeves

In-house and manual production, preformed sleeves ensure simplified application. This saves a lot of time.

Sleeving, an innovative packaging solution with a future

With sleeving, the shrink film is specifically tailored to the respective requirements and the product. This results in completely individual and visually brilliant units. Sleeves are also the best option for seasonal products and for bundling several products together.

Feel free to ask Cosmacon whether your packaging can be sleeved.
