Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract
A plant extract with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It enhances the effectiveness of the system, soothes the skin and supports better tolerability – especially in sensitive formulations.

Why W/O emulsions have special preservation requirements
In contrast to O/W emulsions or gels, W/O emulsions are considered the classic ‘true’ emulsions.
Here, the aqueous phase is present in the form of finely distributed, individual droplets that are completely enclosed by the oil phase.
Each individual water droplet must be stabilised.
Stabilisation is achieved by special W/O emulsifiers that attach themselves to the interface between water and oil. They prevent the droplets from recombining and the emulsion from breaking down.
Typical preservatives or preservative aids are problematic here.
Many classic systems work by occupying the interfaces or being present directly in the aqueous phase.
In a W/O emulsion, this leads to two problems:
- Disruption of the interface balance – when preservatives are present at the interface, they displace the W/O emulsifiers.
- The result: unstable emulsions that tend to separate or break down.
