Amino acids for skin and hair care – Prodew types

Amino acids, Prodew types

The demands placed on modern cosmetic products are constantly increasing. Consumers want products that moisturise, strengthen the skin barrier and care for the hair, but also meet sustainability requirements. This is exactly where Prodew comes in. Ajinomoto’s range of raw materials includes various amino acid-based complexes tailored to specific applications – from intensive skin moisturisation to improved make-up performance.

Amino acids – essential building blocks for skin and hair

They are the basic building blocks of proteins and thus central molecules for numerous biological processes. They are indispensable for both the structure and function of skin and hair.

Occurrence in the skin

In the skin, amino acids are primarily a component of the Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF), which is responsible for regulating moisture in the stratum corneum. These include, for example, glycine, alanine, proline, serine and histidine. They bind water, stabilise the pH value and strengthen the skin barrier. Amino acids also serve as precursors for collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin.

Occurrence in hair

Hair consists mainly of keratins, which are made up of long chains of amino acids. Sulphur-containing amino acids such as cysteine are particularly important here, as they ensure the stability of the hair structure via disulphide bridges. Arginine also plays a role, as it promotes blood circulation to the hair root and thus supports healthy hair growth.

Functions

– Moisture retention (serine, glycine and alanine in NMF)

– Structure and stability (cysteine in keratin, collagen formation from proline and glycine).

– Protection and regeneration (histidine has an antioxidant and soothing effect).

– Growth promotion: Arginine supports microcirculation in the scalp.

Amino acids are therefore essential for healthy, hydrated skin and strong, resilient hair. In modern cosmetics, they are used specifically – both as moisturising NMF components and as active ingredients in hair and anti-ageing products.

Prodew 500 – amino acids mixture for healthy and strong hair

INCI: Alanine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Glycine, Histidine, Isoleucine, PCA, Phenylalanine, Proline, Serine, Sodium Lactate, Sodium PCA, Threonine, Valine.

Hair care formulations in particular benefit from Prodew 500. The active ingredient complex improves the tear resistance and shine of the hair, counteracts damaging effects caused by heat styling and simultaneously moisturises the skin and hair. Shampoos, conditioners and hair masks are ideal areas of application.

Prodew 600 – High performance for the skin

INCI: Betaine, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, PCA, Serine, Alanine, Glycine, Glutamic Acid, Lysine HCl, Threonine, Arginine, Proline, Water

If you are looking for advanced skin care, Prodew 600 is the right partner for you. This amino acid mixture reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), minimises fine lines and optimises skin structure. It is particularly suitable for high-performance moisturisers, anti-ageing serums and even sunscreen formulations.

Prodew 700 – Make-up meets skincare

INCI: Sodium PCA, Sodium Polyaspartate, Butylene Glycol, Betaine, Zinc PCA, Sodium Citrate, Arginine, Serine, Lysine HCl, Glutamic Acid, Water

With Prodew 700, decorative cosmetic products benefit from better adhesion, smoothness and an even finish. At the same time, it regulates sebum production and moisturises. Whether foundations, BB or CC creams, lipsticks or primers – the result is an even, long-lasting make-up finish.

Prodew P-DS-12 – multifunctional moisturiser

INCI: Sodium Caproyl Prolinate

The latest addition to the series, Prodew P-DS-12, impresses with its dual action: it acts both as a natural moisturising factor and as an antimicrobial enhancer. It thus improves the effectiveness of preservation systems and supports the penetration of other active ingredients into the skin. It is particularly popular in clean beauty formulations and natural cosmetics.

Conclusion – Which Prodew type is the right one?

Whether for skin moisturising, hair care, make-up optimisation or preservation support – the different types in the Prodew series offer tailor-made solutions for almost every cosmetic application. The choice depends on the desired function: Prodew 400 and 600 are aimed at intensive skin moisturising, Prodew 500 is perfect for hair care, Prodew 700 optimises make-up and Prodew P-DS-12 enhances preservation systems.

This makes the Prodew series a true all-rounder: it is flexible in use, scientifically sound and ideal for developing modern cosmetic products with noticeable added value.
