Which oil is suitable for cosmetics?

Lipids—i.e., fatty substances—are indispensable for skin care. They protect the skin from drying out, make it supple, smooth the surface, and strengthen the skin barrier. But which oil is particularly suitable for cosmetics?

Why lipids are so important in cosmetics

Lipids occur in both animal and plant forms, are insoluble or only slightly soluble in water, and are derived from the Greek word “lipos” (= fat). Although the skin can produce lipids itself, it does not always produce sufficient quantities. The lipid content of the skin can decrease, especially in cold weather, with increasing age, or due to genetic and hormonal influences. The result: dryness, tightness, sensitivity.

Care products with skin-like lipids—also known as emollients—help to restore the skin’s natural protective function. Vegetable oils in particular play an important role in cosmetics.

Natural oils: valuable sources of lipids

Natural oils support the skin’s moisture balance and provide essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. But quality is crucial. While refined oils have a long shelf life and are low in irritants, cold-pressed oils from certified organic cultivation (kbA) offer a significantly higher active ingredient profile. However, unlike in food, the term “organic” is not legally protected in cosmetics – so it is worth taking a critical look at the origin and manufacturing process.

Which oil for cosmetics? – Innovative examples

Passion fruit oil (Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil)

Extracted from the seeds of the passion flower, it is quickly absorbed and leaves the skin feeling silky soft. It is ideal for sensitive skin, reduces redness, and prevents blemishes.

Kendi oil (Aleurites moluccanus seed oil)

Rich in omega-3, linoleic, and linolenic acids, this oil is an intense moisturizer – ideal for dry and mature skin.

Nyamplung oil (Calophyllum inophyllum seed oil)

This exotic oil has antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. It protects against environmental damage, regenerates stressed skin and provides deep moisture thanks to its sterols.

Pracaxi oil (Pentaclethra Macroloba Seed Oil)

One of the most luxurious plant oils in the world. It helps reduce pigmentation spots, provides mature skin with intensive lipids, reduces stretch marks and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Kahai oil (Caryodendron Orinocense Seed Oil)

An insider tip in anti-aging care. It contains three times more retinol than rosehip seed oil and is rich in vitamin E and omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids. Kahai oil protects against UV-induced skin aging, stimulates cell regeneration, and improves skin elasticity.

Conclusion: Which oil is right for your cosmetics?

Natural oils are more than just nourishing ingredients—they are active ingredients with specific cosmetic functions. Whether for sensitive, dry, mature, or blemished skin, there is a suitable plant oil for every skin type.
