Product displays

Product display, counter display

Introduction

Product displays are large containers used in retail stores to present and promote relatively small products such as creams, eyeliner, and lipstick. They are usually placed directly in the store and are rarely found in shop windows. The cardboard-like semi-open containers ensure that customers can easily see and remove the products. Many product displays have a back wall that can be used for advertising. In technical jargon, this back wall is called a backcard. Basically, displays are suitable for virtually all product groups in drugstores and grocery stores. They are particularly common for cosmetics and sweets.

What types of product displays are there?

Product displays are usually made of cardboard, but high-priced items are often presented in displays made of acrylic glass, metal, wood, or plastic. Cardboard displays can be easily disposed of (in the waste paper) after use or alternatively folded up and stored for further use.

There are four different types: floor displays, also known as floor stands, shelf displays, counter displays, which stand directly on the sales counter, and pallet displays, which are delivered ready-made, i.e., already filled with goods. Pallet displays fulfill two functions: they serve as shipping packaging and are used for product presentation. They are available in standard sizes: as quarter pallets with a base area of 40 x 60 centimeters or as half pallets (60 x 80 centimeters).

Which product displays are suitable for cosmetics?

Cosmetics lines usually consist of many different products with different package sizes and shapes. All these items need to be shown to their best advantage. That’s why it’s important for product displays to have custom-fit inserts. These inserts allow the various cosmetic items to be arranged securely, clearly, and safely. If required, product testers and detailed product information can also be attached to the product displays.

Let’s take nail polish as an example: special cosmetic displays not only allow many different nail polishes to be presented, but a color palette can also be added on request. Floor displays offer particularly generous space. They are often used for complete cosmetic series and can be placed freely at the point of sale, where they ensure lasting sales success as eye-catching displays that cannot be overlooked.

For smaller series or individual cosmetic items, counter displays are ideal, ensuring effective and targeted presentation. Various modern printing techniques, plastic coatings, hot foil stamping, and matte or glossy finishes make the product displays real eye-catchers.

If required, both floor and counter displays can be fitted with an additional Plexiglas or PVC structure. They are delivered either flat or assembled, depending on the customer’s requirements.
