Gold in cosmetics

gold in cosmetics; Amrum; CAS 7440-57-5

Gold has always held an enormous fascination for people. Since ancient times, this precious metal has been regarded as a symbol of true beauty. It is even said that Cleopatra, the legendary Egyptian queen, never slept without her golden face mask. Gold has also always played an important role in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). According to this teaching, the precious metal is able to stimulate our life energy (the ‘Qi’). In classical homeopathy, gold leaf was administered to lift the mood in cases of depression, during the menopause and for disorders of the internal secretion glands during puberty. It is now also known that finely dosed gold has a regulating effect on the human immune system. It has now also found its way into cosmetics. And not just as a luxurious trinket: the precious metal has some important properties.

The advantages of gold in cosmetics

The precious metal is, so to speak, ‘anti-ageing deluxe’ because it has antioxidant properties that counteract cell ageing and can rid the body of toxins. As it is very well absorbed by the skin, it can counteract the ageing process from within, so to speak. But that’s not all. Gold has the ability to bind three hundred times its own weight in moisture. This supply makes the complexion look radiant and vibrant. With its additional antibacterial properties, it is also a real insider tip for blemished skin. And because it also feels pleasantly cool, it provides a refreshing boost.

The possible uses of gold in cosmetics

Gold can be used in many different ways in cosmetics. For example, in body care products, where the precious metal contributes to firmer collagen fibres and tighter connective tissue. It is also an excellent choice for masks, as the addition of cosmetic gold allows ingredients such as hyaluronic acid to be transported more effectively and intensively into the cells. The gold mask, already loved by Cleopatra, is therefore still absolutely contemporary today. It has an anti-inflammatory and invigorating effect and contributes to a more even complexion and clearer skin.

A real innovation is the so-called gold lifting, which is currently only offered in a few exclusive beauty salons. The beautician applies a mask made of liquid silk and the finest gold leaf to the skin. This fleece stimulates microcirculation: the gold is transported into the deepest layers of the skin, while the silk seals the epidermis. The complexion immediately appears fresher and younger, as gold lifting improves the skin’s resilience and boosts its defences. After the lifting treatment, the skin can then be further treated with soothing gold jelly or gold lotion.

In decorative cosmetics, on the other hand, the precious metal ensures a literally golden appearance: the finest particles give the skin a delicate and beautiful golden shimmer, which has a fascinating effect, especially on sun-tanned skin. Sensual body oils with gold particles have long been a trend in ‘celebrity circles’ and are increasingly conquering the bathrooms of beauty-conscious women. Eye shadow, powder and lipstick also get a glamorous touch from tiny gold particles. There’s a really good reason for this: gold refracts light on the surface, creating a classy shimmer.

Purity at the highest level

Cosmetic gold is used either in the form of micro-small metallic particles or as so-called gold water (i.e. in colloidal form). This is the purest form without any heavy metal bonds and is officially recognised and approved as a raw material for certified natural cosmetics. Thanks to its extraordinary purity, it is very well tolerated even by allergy sufferers. It does not contain any preservatives, colourants or other chemical ingredients.
