Shaving shadows
Nowadays it is a matter of course for every woman to depilate her legs. Not only in summer do clean-shaven legs look much better groomed and more attractive. However, not every woman is really satisfied with the result, regardless of the individual shaving method.
In principle, the shaving shadow is nothing more than the hair root shimmering through the skin. Since the hair roots of women with dark body hair are also very dark, shaving shadows are particularly noticeable on them. This is especially true if the skin is very light in contrast to the hairs.
With light body hair, on the other hand, the hair roots remain almost invisible under the skin. By the way, shaving shadows do not appear on all shaved areas: The phenomenon is particularly noticeable on the calf and shin, as the hairs are usually very close together here.
Shaving shadows do not have to be
The dark shadow on the legs may be annoying, but it is not a fate that a woman has to resign herself to. There are several ways to at least reduce the unpleasant effect. One is to change the shaving method: If you epilate your legs, you may have to put up with some unpleasant pain, but problems with shaving shadows do not occur.
The cause
Epilation does not cut off the hair, but pulls it out together with its root. This means that no dark root remains are left under the skin, which would otherwise show through. However, many women would rather do without this painful solution. This is possible without any problems, because there are other alternatives available to those affected.
One very effective method is to treat the skin with so-called glitter creams. Basically, there are now countless lotions that are applied after shaving to soothe the skin.
They ensure optimal moisturisation and sometimes also have a slightly cooling effect. In addition, creams and lotions containing special glitter particles can also be found on the market. These particles provide a silky shimmer on the skin, which looks very beautiful and well-groomed, especially on the legs. Great side effect: the glitter particles also reflect the light at the same time, so that the unwanted shaving shadows are hardly visible or not visible at all and the skin looks much more even.
And there is a third way to counteract the dark shadows: On gently tanned legs, shaving shadows are hardly noticeable. But this does not mean that affected women should visit the nearest tanning salon every day or expose themselves to excessive sunbathing. In this context, lotions that are lightly tinted or self-tanning creams are a gentle but effective help to alleviate or eliminate shaving shadows. If you are looking for a tinted body lotion: The tint should be as close as possible to the intensity of the shaving shadows in terms of its strength.
Don’t confuse shaving shadows and razor burn
The dark shadows on the legs should never be confused with classic razor burn. Although razor burn is also a very unpleasant by-product of hair removal, it has completely different causes. It is irritation and redness that occurs on shaved areas and often also burns and itches intensely. This is often accompanied by reddish pimples that take several days to disappear. Triggers are sharp hair tips that bend over during shaving and thus dig into the connective tissue. Razor burn also occurs when the skin is cared for with the wrong products or not at all after a dry or wet shave. In the worst case, razor burn can even lead to long-term inflammation of the hair follicles. Skin affected by razor burn is best treated with products containing salicylic acid, glycolic acid, witch hazel and aloe vera.
No one has to live with shaving shadows these days
Especially women who attach importance to regular leg hair removal are annoyed by the dark shimmer that results from the hair roots left behind after shaving. But this annoying side effect can be counteracted relatively easily … and without painful epilation. Tinted lotions and glitter creams provide an even skin texture in which the dark hair roots are only slightly or not at all noticeable.
Such products usually have a double benefit, as they act like a soft focus and also cover up imperfections, stretch marks and varicose veins. And not necessarily with the chemical bomb, because more and more formulas are now being developed that contain only natural or even vegan ingredients.
Active ingredients such as avocado oil, grapefruit wax and arnica have a firming and tightening effect, so that these lotions also finely define the body’s contours and ensure an even more attractive silhouette. Mini skirts, shorts and capri trousers can be taken out of the wardrobe again, because no woman has to surrender to shaving shadows.
