D-Glycargine® – Innovation in hair care: Protection against color loss and gray hair

D-Glycargine formula structure of the molecule

What is D-Glycargine?

D-Glycargine is a novel cosmetic active ingredient from Solabia Group that was developed for hair care. With its powerful color retention and anti-gray hair effects, this ingredient clearly stands out from the rest. Thanks to its multifunctional properties, it is suitable for both preventive and curative applications in modern formulations.

Physicochemical characteristics of D-Glycargine

Chemical class: Derivative of glycine and arginine

Appearance: Liquid, water-soluble

Color/odor: Colorless to slightly yellowish, neutral odor

pH (1% solution): 4.5–6.5

Solubility: Completely water-soluble

Preservation: Paraben-free, easy to preserve

Stability: Stable in light and temperature

Compatibility: High formulation stability with surfactants and alcohols

INCI-name: Aqua, Arginine PCA

These properties make D-Glycargine ideal for modern cosmetic formulations that need to be both gentle and effective.

Clear efficacy results: Color and melanin protection

Significantly reduced color loss

An ex vivo test on colored Caucasian hair strands showed that a shampoo formulation containing 0.5% D-Glycargine significantly delayed color loss compared to a placebo.

After 15 hair washes, color absorption in the rinse water was measured to be reduced by up to 63% (absorption measurement at 515 nm). This means that the hair color remains in the hair much longer – the dye is “locked” inside the hair fiber.

Melanin content dramatically increased

A second study with 1% D-Glycargine on human hair follicles (women, 54 years old) showed an impressive increase in melanin content after only nine days:

  • Compared to the untreated sample (D9), the melanin content increased by +205%.
  • Compared to the initial sample (D0), a decrease of -63% was observed in untreated hair follicles.

These results clearly show that D-glycargine can effectively counteract the development of gray hair.

Advantages of D-glycargine in hair care

  • Color protection:Protects colored hair from washing out.
  • Anti-greying effect:Increases melanin content and prevents graying.
  • Mild formulation:Gentle on the skin, even for sensitive scalps.
  • Multifunctional:Effective both preventively and curatively.
  • Compatible with many formulations:Easy to incorporate.
  • Naturally inspired:Derived from amino acids.
  • Clinically tested:Studies prove clear effectiveness.

Are there any disadvantages to using D-Glycargine?

Although D-Glycargine offers numerous advantages, there are a few points to consider:

  • Cost factor:Due to its specific manufacturing process, D-Glycargine is more expensive than conventional active ingredients.
  • Concentration dependence:At least 0.5–1% is necessary for visible effects – below this threshold, the effect decreases significantly.
  • Formulation sensitivity:Stability may be lost at pH values below 4 or above 7.
  • Lack of long-term data:The effect has been proven in ex vivo studies, but long-term applications in humans have not yet been comprehensively documented.
